On Christmas Eve I open 1 present.  I open pajamas or an ornament.  No toys!  The best for last I guess, or the best for Christmas morning.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;2.  On Christmas morning I wake up (I'm an early riser) probably no one is awake yet!  If no one is awake I have to wait and wait and wait.  Staring at the presents does not make it easier to wait!&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;3.  Finally someone wakes up!  It is my brother Jake.  Then my parents wake up!  Time to open presents.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;4.  After that my parents go to get the camera to take pictures of our faces when we see our gifts.  I stick my hand in my stocking and usually there is candy, small activity books or small gifts.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;5.  After presents we eat breakfast and light the last candle on the Advent Wreath. During our eigth month of pregnancy I was reading the Dragon King series by Stephen Lawhead and came across his beautiful, noble queen with the long red hair named Alinea - I fell in love with it immediately.  It suits her beautifully and the other day she asked me what it meant.  I had forgotten so today I searched for the answer again.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;I had written Stephen Lawhead years ago asking if he had the meaning of her name and &lt;a href="http://www.stephenlawhead.com/"&gt;this was the answer from his website: &lt;/a&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Q:  We named our daugher after Queen Alinea.  Can you give me a meaning to the name, or any history you may have on it?&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Q:  I am now pregnant and knew from the first time I read the name 'Queen Alinea' this would be the name of my daughter.  I am hoping you can tell me what Alinea means, as it will mean very much to me and my daughter when one day she is able to read the series.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;A: Most of the names in the DRAGON KING books are medieval names, or older forms of common modern names. The name "Alinea" is a very old name of Germanic origin derived from the popular 12th Century "Adeline," which derives in turn from the old word "athal" which means: noble. We officially move on Saturday into our new home.  It's the top 2 floors of a large home and will be really good space for us.  We've had access to it for the past couple of weeks and have gotten it move in ready.  Alinea's room is bright green - we call it electric celery - and we're using a couple shades of pink and lots of butterflies to decorate.  It's really come together beautifully.  She is giddy every time she walks in there.  I am so thrilled we've been able to fulfill this promise to them and give them the bedrooms they have dreamed about.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Jacob's room is a castle theme - we're having to make more of his things, so some of it will have to wait until we're moved in - but he's got a throne, and dragons, shields and swords - and he's very excited to have a space that is fit 'for a king'! (well, at least a prince or knight!)&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;We've done lots of painting and prep work for the move and now there are just a couple of tiny things to tie up and then the work of getting the stuff 'here' to 'there' - it's just 11 addresses down the street and I joked with friends that if I had access to four shopping carts we'd each be wheeling them down the street!  The kids are so relieved we didn't! HA!&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;I'll post pictures as soon as we get furniture in.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Please pray if you think of us - we do the big move on Saturday.  I'm on my second round of antibiotics for bronchitis and I'd really like to be returned to full health soon! Keith has been filling in a couple days a week at the university cooking.  He's learning lots and enjoying getting to know the student body.  He also has been contacted by the local group home and community services to do some one on one work with the high needs/risk teens.  It's not full-time work, but it's a start.  Thanks for your prayers!&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;We're meeting new people and making new friends and truly loving the community here.  People actually take the time to sit and visit here.  It's really a warm, welcoming place. &lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Ali &amp;amp; Jake have "March Break" the first week in March, so we're hoping some nice weather drops in here so we can take some day trips and see some sites.  We're on a puffin hunt (not the killing type of hunt, but the 'ah ha, we've found you' type of search).  we know they're around here somewhere - but we're not sure if they migrate and when they return, and where exactly they go - but if they are around here in March we're going to find them!&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;There's not much left to tell, but wanted to give an update. Life here is flowing nicely. We are enjoying the community, the area and our new church. Yes, we have chosen already, it was the first one we went to, but it was so welcoming and warm it felt just like home. The kids loved it, we loved it and we're thrilled to have another piece in the puzzle of our new lives in place.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;We've had no end of frustration with our printer. We upgraded our computer before we moved (thank you Ed Gouldsbary!) and our old printer won't communicate with Windows XP - argh! We have spent literally hours and hours scouring the web for a driver to replace it, and only recently remembered that Keith's laptop (thank you John Mine!) would be able to still communicate with the printer - so now we have to transfer files back and forth to print, but at least we're able to FINALLY get the resumes out and hopefully ABOUT! :) (good Canadian lingo, eh? Must be pronouced "OOT &amp;amp; ABOOT")&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;We've got some good leads and really would love to have this piece (or pieces) falling into place too. All prayers would be appreciated!&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Ali and Jake are still wonderful, amazing kids. We received their cyberschool report cards and it was so nice to read how well they did (it was mommy's report card too!). That time of homeschooling will be a fond memory for us all. They are enjoying school, but really enjoyed the "ice day" on Wednesday - the ice never manifested, but we had a really windy rainstorm. Other than that we've had glorious blue skies and we even took a family walk last night down to the river.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Our new friend Smigel (the bald eagle) meets us there nearly every time we cross the border or near the river. He is glorious and such a sight to see. We first met him as we crossed the border the very first time we visited. He was carrying a large stick for his nest in the park by the river. When we returned the truck after the move he flew right over it and Ali, Jake and I were treated to an upclose view of him. Keith and I were driving through town and saw him in a tree perched and I tried to creep up to snap a picture - but he flew away just as I had focused. Still a wonderful gift.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Last night he was fishing right by the lighthouse as we walked along the shore in the very windy, chilly night air. We have named him Smigel (Gollum before he found the ring in The Hobbit and The Lord of the Rings Trilogy) and he is "ours" - we'll gladly share him with our community, but he'll always be our family pet. I promise, as soon as I have a picture I will share it with you here.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;So, we're settling in, looking for work and enjoying all we can along the way. Keith's off this afternoon to support Jake on his skates at the rink for a field trip. Hope this post finds you all well. A 'stop doing' list. &lt;/span&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Each time the New Year rolls around and I sit down to do my annual resolutions, I reflect back to a lesson taught me by a remarkable teacher. In my mid-20s, I took a course on creativity and innovation from Rochelle Myers and Michael Ray at the Stanford Graduate School of Business, and I kept in touch with them after I graduated.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;One day, Rochelle pointed to my ferocious work pace and said, "I notice, Jim, that you are a rather undisciplined person."&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;I was stunned and confused. After all, I was the type of person who carefully laid out my BHAGs (big hairy audacious goals), top three objectives and priority activities at the start of each New Year. I prided myself on the ability to work relentlessly toward those objectives, applying the energy I'd inherited from my prairie- stock grandmother.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;"Your genetic energy level enables your lack of discipline," Rochelle continued. "Instead of leading a disciplined life, you lead a busy life."&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;She then gave me what I came to call the 20-10 assignment. It goes like this: Suppose you woke up tomorrow and received two phone calls. The first phone call tells you that you have inherited $20 million, no strings attached. The second tells you that you have an incurable and terminal disease, and you have no more than 10 years to live. What would you do differently, and, in particular, what would you stop doing?&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;That assignment became a turning point in my life, and the "stop doing" list became an enduring cornerstone of my annual New Year resolutions -- a mechanism for disciplined thought about how to allocate the most precious of all resources: time.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Rochelle's challenge forced me to see that I'd been plenty energetic, but on the wrong things. Indeed, I was on entirely the wrong path. After graduate school, I'd taken a job at Hewlett- Packard. I loved the company, but hated the job. Rochelle's assignment helped me to see I was cut out to be a professor, a researcher, a teacher -- not a businessman -- and I needed to make a right-angle turn. I had to stop doing my career, so that I could find my real work. I quit HP, migrated to the Stanford Business School faculty and eventually became -- with some remarkable good luck along the way -- a self-employed professor, happily toiling away on my research and writing.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Rochelle's lesson came back to me a number of years later while puzzling over the research data on 11 companies that turned themselves from mediocrity to excellence, from good to great. In cataloguing the key steps that ignited the transformations, my research team and I were struck by how many of the big decisions were not what to do, but what to stop doing.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;In perhaps the most famous case, Darwin Smith of Kimberly-Clark - - a man who had prevailed over throat cancer -- said one day to his wife: "I learned something from my cancer. If you have a cancer in your arm, you've got to have the guts to cut off your own arm. I've made a decision: We're going to sell the mills."&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;At the time, Kimberly-Clark had the bulk of its revenues in the traditional paper business. But Smith began asking three important questions: Are we passionate about the paper business? Can we be the best in the world at it? Does the paper business best drive our economic engine?&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;The answers came up: no, no and no.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;And so, Smith made the decision to stop doing the paper business - - to sell off 100 years of corporate history -- and throw all the resulting resources into the consumer business (building brands such as Kleenex), which came up yes, yes and yes to the same questions.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;The start of the New Year is a perfect time to start a stop doing list and to make this the cornerstone of your New Year resolutions, be it for your company, your family or yourself. It also is a perfect time to clarify your three circles, mirroring at a personal level the three questions asked by Smith:&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;1) What are you deeply passionate about?&lt;br /&gt;2) What are you are genetically encoded for – what activities do you feel just "made to do"?&lt;br /&gt;3) What makes economic sense -- what can you make a living at?&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Those fortunate enough to find or create a practical intersection of the three circles have the basis for a great work life.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Think of the three circles as a personal guidance mechanism. As you navigate the twists and turns of a chaotic world, it acts like a compass. Am I on target? Do I need to adjust left, up, down, right? If you make an inventory of your activities today, what percentage of your time falls outside the three circles?&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;If it is more than 50%, then the stop doing list might be your most important tool. The question is: Will you accept good as good enough, or do you have the courage to sell the mills?&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Looking back, I now see Rochelle Myers as one of the few people I've known to lead a great life, while doing truly great work. This stemmed largely from her remarkable simplicity. A simple home. A simple schedule. A simple frame for her work.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Rochelle spoke to me repeatedly about the idea of "making your life a creative work of art." A great piece of art is composed not just of what is in the final piece, but equally important, what is not. We have to say a HUGE thank-you to all of you who came to help us on our way and we are so very grateful for the assistance. There are too many names to list when we come to think about all the people we will miss. We are also aware that there are many who wanted very much to connect with us before we left but because our move day was mid-week, could not. We were so bogged down with the actual mechanics of the move that we couldn't get to see everyone we had hoped to see either. Please know that we understand and we hope that you will understand too. Leaving is never easy.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Our re-entry into Canadian society could not have been easier - much of that was due to Heidi's diligence in having all of our paperwork together. We did have one tense moment at the border when they asked for the title of our vehicle and I went "Uh...title....Yeah we have that....One sec...(Honey? Where is the title for the wagon? [please don't say in the truck - please don't say in the truck]"&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;"It's in the truck...[argh!]...Under the front seat." Bless you and your children's children (OK our children's children.) Anyway with that they gave us the Okey Dokey and in we went!&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;All is new and bright, possibilities abound - God is good.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Questions still remain and we very much need your prayers in regard to work, but at the end of it we are eager to sit in the quiet confidence of God's great provision and watch it all unfold.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;We have a St. Stephens phone number - email us if you want it. We feel very welcome, safe and HOME! Yipee! I LOVE hotels.com - we got the same price at this wonderful place as we'd have to pay for a roadside motel. Yipee!&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;We're meeting my sister Denise, her husband Andrew and the new baby Mary Beth (for the first time!) there tomorrow. It won't be a long visit, but a respite away from the packing and hauling and driving.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;The moving company is allowing us the truck tonight, so we might even be able to get a lot done tonight so we can head out earlier tomorrow. I don't know how much access we'll have to the internet, but we'll try to keep you posted.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Please pray that those who have committed to help (on both ends) are able and that the packing and driving (and border crossing especially on Friday) will be smooth and trouble free. It seems I must always feel&lt;br /&gt;a little wilted or deadened before I know&lt;br /&gt;I'm too pot bound.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;This african violet must first be cut&lt;br /&gt;and divided. The knife goes through the root.&lt;br /&gt;The white flesh exposed and moist&lt;br /&gt;looks as if it is bleeding.&lt;br /&gt;It must have soil immediately&lt;br /&gt;so the plant won't die.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Then water. Water taken in from below.&lt;br /&gt;This water must seep up into the plant&lt;br /&gt;by infusion. Then comes the waiting&lt;br /&gt;as the shock registers.&lt;br /&gt;Days and weeks of waiting.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;It will be months before a new leaf appears.&lt;br /&gt;Perhaps the plant won't make it.&lt;br /&gt;So it is when the time comes for me to be cut&lt;br /&gt;and divided so as to grow again.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Help me to see this not as a problem&lt;br /&gt;but as a process. Wishing someone a 'happy new year' is a lot of pressure when you think about it. Happiness can be so fleeting and random. Joy is so much deeper and richer. Happy means circumstances must all go 'my way' and feeling deep emotions will keep me from my goal, if it is indeed happiness.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;I even struggle with the wording in the Declaration of Independence:&lt;blockquote&gt;We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness.&lt;/blockquote&gt;I personally feel that the pursuit of contentment would be a much better goal. I wonder if it's having the goal and pursuit 'happiness' that brings so much ruin and disappointment to so many lives? Is happiness really ever truly in our grasp? Is it ever anything we truly have control over? How much less debt, depression and frustration might come if we changed our goal of happiness to something like joy, contentment and/or peace?&lt;/span&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;I even struggle with some translations of the beatitudes. 'Happy are those who mourn'... Really? That kind of translation smacks of delusion and rubs me the wrong way - it makes Jesus sound like a sadist - like he's clueless and can't grasp how much mourning really sucks.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Blessed is even a weak word. I've packed my library, so I can't quote it verbatim, but Larry Crabb, in The Safest Place on Earth speaks of that word being 'an island of calm' - a place of safety where others are drawn to - I like that.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;I think that's what I wish us all this year - that we can become 'islands of calm' in the sea of our communities - we can be the people that are stable and solid that others are drawn to. Many tears were shed as he said goodbye to his best friend after the sleepover last night. Alinea's party is Thursday night. Her best friend will be spending the night and I'm sure they will both savour those last bits of time together. Watching Ali &amp; Jake learning about love and separation is difficult, but we know it's part of maturing and growing up. It's just not very easy.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;The moving truck is booked and we've been packing and packing. Keith calls it 'feeding the cardboard monster'. To that end we have planned Friday, December 30th for PACKING PARTY 2005 - all locals are invited to come finish up the dregs of the boxes and relocating furniture to make the big move on Wednesday easier. So if you're local you're invited! Oram's donuts for breakfast, pizza for lunch and a huge pot of chili for supper. Please drop by and say 'bye'.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Strong backs are also needed for Wednesday, January 4th. We saved $200 by bumping back to Wednesday - so even though it's a weekday we're hoping some are able to lend us a hand (and a back) and get us packed up and ready to move out ASAP on Wednesday. We're hitting the road and praying to get as far as Wilkes Barre, PA that night.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;The next day we're heading up, hopefully, to Portland, Maine, sleep that night and end in St. Stephen on Friday as soon as possible. Praying for a smooth, painless border crossing and lots of volunteers on the Canada side. We spoke with them today and they are as excited as we are to get landed and tucked in.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;To save another chunk of change (almost $1000) we opted for a Penske Truck instead of a U-Haul. The U-Haul horror stories and the extra cost had us choose the long route instead of the shorter cheaper route. We will have to return the Penske truck to Portland, Maine and get dad to the airport for Sunday. It's an extra 12 hours of driving - but we've got more time than $$ and we can sleep afterward. The kids start school on Monday morning, bright and early.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;I know, it's sounds exhausting doesn't it? Very exciting. We had Jacob's bon voyage party last night and have Alinea's tomorrow. A dozen boys in a house can cause a lot of chaos, but we had a ball. His best friend Corbin spent the night last night and I'm sure goodbye in a couple of hours is going to be pretty painful. My heart breaks for him.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;I don't think he's really conceived it yet, so maybe that bubble of being a 7 3/4 year old boy will protect him. Alinea on the other hand is old enough, and female enough to know what's going on. She's trying to be brave, although it's not necessary - I know her goodbyes to Megan on Friday are going to be really rough.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;We have one last celebration on New Year's with friends from the old church and then there will be random goodbyes over the following days. Such mixed emotions, both of anticipation and loss, excitement and anxiety. Feeling each of the emotions as they come is key. Helping the kids through this is the most important.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Again, we covet your prayers. It hardly seems real. I thought maybe poking around the real estate website of the house we will be moving into would make it more real.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;It's a big, beautiful home- 3 bathrooms - I have NO idea how we'll heat it - but god has provided this temporary stop on the Turner path for us to rent as we seek to place more permanent roots down in St. Stephen.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;This house is being purchased by one of the incoming professors to the university. It was one of the ways we felt god confirmed our choice to move there. About 20 minutes after we 'decided' that Tuesday morning back in early November that we were really moving this man from Houston, Texas called and asked if we were the people seeking a temporary rental in St. Stephan, New Brunswick.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;How god triangulates things like this is one of the great mysteries of the kingdom. They would be purchasing a home in January, but weren't able to move until June. With a greatly reduced (god bless them) rent we are able to have a soft place to land and re-establish our commanding credit (these cross border moves really need to stop) So we don't need the 35% downpayment instead of the normal 5% required of residents.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;An even more interesting tie-in to this story is that he and his wife were integral in the beginnings of Trinity Episcopal Seminary just down the road from us. It is a small, small world sometimes.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;So, in less than 2 weeks we will be calling this beautiful edifice our home. The kids are excited to see that driveway - bikes, skates and skateboards! yipee! The sidewalks here on college hill are so horrible that they've barely had a chance to learn all of those wonderful things. It's a lot of work, but we've been purging through so much stuff that what we take with us will only be the things we LOVE.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;We got a phone call this week from a friend who remembered me talking about my great hate of my furniture last spring. She told me that she was redecorating and that her sofa and love seat were ours if we wanted them. So I have the first set of matching (beautiful) furniture I've ever owned. Thank you Mary!&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;We've got the tree up and most of the shopping done, the kids are through school (and I am DONE with homeschooling FOREVER!!) YIPEE!! I sure loved having Ali and Jake around, but being the sole responsibility for everything they need to know was far too much responsibility for me - they need to learn from people who have it far more together than me! Ha!&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;The moving van is booked for January 4th and we're saving TONS by leaving on the Wednesday. It will be a tight squeeze to get everything moved in and the van returned and the kids to school on the 9th, but that deadline is what it needs to be. Hopefully God knew that the weather would be better during those days instead of earlier... we pray!&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;We're trying to put together a 'bon voyage' party for the kids before we go. Unfortunately each of the kids best friends have different travel plans for the week after Christmas - so we're having to plan b it and don't know exactly what that means yet. Getting this taken care of will be a huge load of my plate. I want to keep this promise and keep it well - maybe now that school is done we can work it out.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Hope all is going well for your holiday plans! I know it's silly - cardboard, right? But these were professional moving boxes - the kinds for artwork and hanging clothes. I knew that we'd never be able to justify buying them for this move.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;There wasn't any hits on the last blog post locally, so I was a bit discouraged thinking about scrounging dumpsters for boxes and having to make the rounds to the liquor stores and grocery stores begging for boxes. Then i remembered &lt;a href="http://www.freecycle.org/"&gt;freecycle&lt;/a&gt;.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;If you're not familiar with http://www.freecycle.org/&lt;br /&gt;, you should be. It's the most enviromentally sound, brilliant, global idea - it's amazing we all haven't been doing this for years. It's an email group you subscribe to for your area - if you have something to get rid of you send out an email, and others do the same. The first person to claim the item gets to go and pick it up - so simple, eh? We've passed on tons of stuff we no longer needed, and have benefited so many times from others doing the same.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;It also works if you're looking for an item, say, like moving boxes. I put out an email asking for boxes or places that have been generous to others in the past. Really never expecting much, but the phrase 'you have not, because you ask not' kept running through my head. So, okay, I'll ask.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Guess what - a new subscriber to our local freecycle just got moved here by the government and they have EVERYTHING we need. Keith's going to pick them up today - closet boxes, dish boxes, packing supplies, everything! YIPEE!! Some of you may not even know that Keith has resigned his youth pastorate after almost five years at Chippewa E-Free Church. This was a painful, but important decision for us to make. We feel that it was for the best. We love "our" teens deeply and to loose contact with them feels like they've been surgically removed from our lives.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;This decision has created a bit of an immigration glitch for us. Keith has been here on a Religious Worker visa. We had believed that after it's expiry at the end of September of this year, he would have met the requirements for citizenship (or so we thought).&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;When we arrived in the US five years ago we opted for the less expensive R-1 Visa. ($6.00) Instead of spending the $400 for the church (or Heidi) to sponsor him for Permanent Resident Status (a "green card") It was a no brainer for us at the time. We have since found out that an R-1 Visa does not convert to citizenship like a Permanent Resident Visa would. It was an expensive and time consuming mistake.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;We have since approached our Congresswoman Melissa Hart to ask for her involvement in our situation to see if there could be any special circumstances that might apply to our situation. If there are that would allow Keith to apply for citizenship without starting the whole process over. So far the answer is "no". There is still a chance of a 'Hail Mary", but we're not putting a lot of stock in that possibility.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Needless to say, we are all fully enjoying Keith's sabbatical. It's been a time of growth, healing and figuring out exactly what it is we want to be doing "next." We've looked at every option - all the way from working with NGO's and various non-profits to pursuing a Masters degree in counselling or teaching. Each time our hearts came up short. We still both felt a deep call to ministry.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;So we have been watching to see the open doors that will continue us on that path. As God opens some doors, and shuts others, He show us where He wants us to go. We continue to be willing for that to be anywhere.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;To that end we have just returned from a whirl-wind tour of the east coast - 11 states/1 province in 8 days! The purpose of that trip was to visit a school in St. Stephens New Brunswick, Canada!!! There is a Masters In Ministry at St. Stephens University program that both Keith &amp; I are looking to participate in. While up there we both had the sense that we had been there before. It was so familiar and warm. There is such a wonderful community atmosphere and we're so looking forward to the future God is arranging for us.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;It is an enormous task to think about moving our family (again) internationally, but God has opened doors and been confirming this choice many times along the way. We are grateful for the direction and for having a 'next' to travel toward.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;School starts for us all on January 9th. Keith &amp; I will probably only participate in one class for this next semester, and Alinea &amp; Jacob will be attending the public school up there. As a school, St. Stephen's is deeply committed to both exemplary academics and deep spiritual formation.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;While it will bring great change we know that we're all up to the challenge. The kids are excited too - we've been making it quite the adventure along the way. Ali has already started her beach glass collection and we're all looking forward to whale watching in the spring.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;The town of St. Stephens is glorious and located just over the border of Calais, (pronounced Kahl-is by those who live there.) Maine. It's right on the Bay of Fundy where the tides are the most dramatic on the whole face of the earth - moving in and out over 50 feet twice a day. Imagine bobbing in a small boat on water that is deeper than a five-story building, and then in six hours go back to that exact spot and walk around on the ocean floor.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Together the two communities support about 10,00 souls. The little bridge over the St. Croix River is only about 200 yards long and without any toll. The two communities share one life together - if you want to swim at the indoor pool, or go to the movies, you go to Calais If you want to go skating or bowling you go to St. Stephen's. there "crossing the border" is a way of life.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Heidi will be able to work in the US while we get the Canadian paperwork squared away.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Below we've posted our family picture from this summer's mission trip in West Virginia, if you could print it out and magnet it to your fridge as a reminder to pray for us we'd really appreciate it tons.
